Henry Taylor: Sis and Bra, solo exhibition, Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (2007)

After years of working odd jobs—including a ten-year stint as a psychiatric technician—the painter Henry Taylor finally received acclaim as one of the most engaging emerging artists of his time. The Studio Museum in Harlem presented his first museum solo exhibition, Sis and Bra, an exploration of economic and racial disparities in the United States through portraiture. Taylor, who drew inspiration from just about everything around him, offered a refreshing, idiosyncratic perspective on the American cultural landscape
