Freestyle, group exhibition, Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (2001)

Freestyle (2001) at The Studio Museum in Harlem was a landmark exhibition curated by Thelma Golden and Christine Y. Kim that introduced 28 emerging artists redefining Black contemporary art. It famously introduced the concept of "post-black" art, showcasing work that engaged with complex notions of identity while resisting rigid, traditional labels. This exhibit inaugurated the "F" show series—including Frequency (2005), Flow (2008), Fore (2012) and Fictions (2017)—that established the Studio Museum as a primary launching pad for young artists. Freestyle travelled to the Santa Monica Museum of Art (2002).
